ECE R67 — LPG vehicle systems
ECE R67 is the UN regulation for LPG (autogas) systems in motor vehicles. It sets approval requirements for the whole installation and for individual components — tanks, valves, hoses, fittings and the multivalve — covering pressure, leak-tightness, temperature and material safety so that an autogas vehicle can be legally homologated.
ECE R67, formally UN Regulation No. 67, is the international regulation that governs LPG fuel systems in motor vehicles. It is applied across UNECE member countries and is the reference for type-approval of autogas conversions and factory-fitted LPG vehicles.
What it covers
The regulation has two main parts: approval of specific LPG components and approval of the vehicle with respect to the installation of those components. Components within scope include the tank, multivalve, pressure regulator, hoses and rigid pipes, fittings, the filling unit and the gas-tight housing.
- Pressure resistance and burst behaviour of pressure-bearing parts.
- Leak-tightness of joints and the complete system.
- Behaviour over the full service temperature range.
- Material compatibility with LPG and resistance to ageing.
- Safe routing, fixing and protection of hoses and pipes on the vehicle.
Relation to hose standards
Flexible hoses used in an R67 installation must themselves meet a hose standard such as EN 1762, and then be approved as part of the R67 component family. R67 therefore sits above the hose standard: EN 1762 qualifies the hose, R67 qualifies its use in the vehicle system.
How to comply
Specify components carrying an R67 (E-mark) approval, install them according to the regulation, and ensure hoses are correctly rated, routed away from heat and abrasion, and fitted with approved connectors. The complete installation is then inspected for leak-tightness and correct mounting.
Frequently asked questions
It regulates the type-approval of LPG (autogas) components and of vehicles fitted with LPG systems, including tanks, valves, hoses and fittings.
No. EN 1762 qualifies the hose as a product; ECE R67 approves the complete LPG fuel system and its components on the vehicle. An R67 hose typically also meets EN 1762.
Approved components carry an E-mark with the regulation number. Always check the marking and accompanying approval documents before installation.
