EN 1762 explained: LPG hose Type A, B, C and D

EN 1762 explained: LPG hose Type A, B, C and D

EN 1762 is the European standard for rubber hoses and hose assemblies used with liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) in the liquid and vapour phase. If you buy or specify LPG hoses, the EN 1762 type is the first thing to check — it tells you the working pressure the hose is built and tested for.

What the EN 1762 types mean

The standard divides hoses into types by maximum working pressure. The higher the type, the higher the pressure rating:

TypeMax working pressureTypical use
Type A10 barLow-pressure vapour, appliances
Type B16 barGeneral LPG, light duty
Type C20 barCylinders, medium duty
Type D25 barHeavy duty, autogas, industrial

How to choose the right LPG hose

Match the hose to the highest pressure your system can reach, then add a safety margin. For most cylinder and autogas applications, Type D (25 bar) is the safe choice because it covers the widest range. Also confirm the temperature range (typically -30 °C to +70 °C), the inner diameter, and the fittings (couplings) you need.

Why certification matters in B2B purchasing

An EN 1762 marking printed on the hose — for example EN 1762:2018 TYPE D — W.P 25 BAR — is your proof of compliance. Buyers, installers and inspectors look for it. A hose without a clear standard marking is a risk, regardless of price.

Quick checklist before you order

  • Required working pressure → correct EN 1762 type
  • Inner diameter and length
  • Temperature range of the application
  • Fittings / couplings
  • Printed standard marking and certificate

Frequently asked questions

Autogas (LPG vehicle) systems work at higher pressures, so Type D (25 bar) — often combined with ECE R67 — is the usual requirement.

W.P stands for working pressure. 25 bar is the maximum continuous pressure the hose is rated and tested for, corresponding to EN 1762 Type D.

Yes. A higher type has a higher pressure rating, so it is always safe to use a Type D hose where a lower type is specified — never the other way around.
